Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra carried out with traditional fervour in Naxalbari

Naxalbari, 27th June: The 55th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath was carried out in Naxalbari on Friday, continuing the region’s long-standing tradition. The event was inaugurated by Arun Ghosh, Sabhadhipati of Siliguri Mahakama Parishad, who ceremonially pulled the chariot’s rope.


The celebration saw the presence of Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti President Anand Ghosh, several Gram Panchayat Pradhans, and the organising committee. Bidyut Das, president of the Naxalbari Rathkhola Rath Puja Committee, mentioned that a larger crowd is expected in the evening. Civic volunteers have been deployed for smooth chariot movement, and the area is under police and CCTV surveillance.

A fair has also been set up to mark the occasion, with over 300 stalls installed. Arun Ghosh noted the added significance this year, mentioning that the Chief Minister will be pulling the chariot in Digha. He described the Naxalbari chariot as not only the pride of the town but also the most prominent Rath Yatra in the district.
