Kharibari, 20th October: A wild elephant has been spotted wandering near local communities adjacent to the Tukuriajhar forest area. The elephant’s presence, particularly around the Panitanki area, has caused considerable alarm among residents.
Locals reported that the elephant has been roaming the area for the past month. They noted that the animal appears to have an injury on its leg, raising concerns about its health and the potential threat it poses. Residents are urging for immediate veterinary attention for the injured elephant.
In response to the situation, Debesh Pandey, the Forest Officer of the Kurseong Forest Division, confirmed that they are aware of the elephant’s presence. He stated that the injury appeared to be old and indicated that a team from Bengal Safari Park would be dispatched to provide medical care to the elephant soon.
