Locals of Rajganj’s Chaturagach to boycott polls due to unavailability of bridge to cross the river in the village

Rajganj, 13th March: The locals of Chaturagach village near the Indo-Bangladesh border of Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat (GP) of Rajganj block are considering to boycott the Lok Sabha elections. The move comes due to the alleged unavailability of a bridge to cross the river compelling the locals to commute via a makeshift bamboo bridge for several years.

Reportedly, several applications were made at various places, but the bridge was not constructed. It is to be noted that the Dahuk River flows through the centre of the village which caused several hardships for the residents. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha elections are around the corner which prompted the locals to reconsider voting.

According to the locals, during the dry season it is possible to commute using the makeshift bridge, but not during monsoon. They stated that activities including market, school-college, and office have to be done by crossing the river. They added that the GP officials or people’s representatives of the area, are least concerned by the absence of a bridge. During the elections, the leaders promised to construct the bridge, however, it was never a reality.

Ruba Khanam, Pradhan of Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat stated that the matter to be in her knowledge and the higher officials has been informed. She added that the locals should not boycott the vote. Further, she stated that the bridge would be constructed after the Lok Sabha polls.
