Locals demand reopening of Children’s Park in Shantipara adjacent to Siliguri

Siliguri, 26th November: Local residents in Shantipara have raised concerns over the closure of the children’s park in the area, which they claim has now become a gathering spot for drug addicts.

Reportedly, the children’s park, located under the Fulbari I Gram Panchayat, was once a popular spot for children to play. However, it was suddenly closed three months ago, and there has been no clear explanation for its shutdown. Residents report that since the park’s closure, drug abusers have been frequenting the area, especially at night.

The locals have expressed their demand for the park to be reopened, believing that its closure has led to increased disturbances, and reopening it would provide a safe space for children to play.

In response to the concerns, Sunita Roy Chakraborty, Pradhan of Fulbari I Gram Panchayat, stated that the park had been leased out to an individual through a tender. However, the person recently informed that he would no longer be able to manage the park. Chakraborty assured that the matter would be looked into.
