Rajganj, 10th August: Locals expressed outrage over the deplorable condition of the road within a month and a half of its inauguration. They raised questions concerning the quality of materials used for its construction.
As per the information, the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) constructed a paved road starting from Panikauri to Rajganj Bazar at a cost of 2 crore rupees. The road was inaugurated on July 26.
However, within just a month and a half of its inauguration, several cracks and holes started to appear on the road. As the damage remained unattended, they became bigger leading to entire stretches of roads getting riddled with large craters.
Locals fear the dilapidated roadways might lead to several accidents in the area. They stated that the matter was reported to the block administration. Following this, barricades have been set up near the holes by the Rajganj police to prevent accidents.
In this regard, Rajganj MLA Khageshwar Roy stated that due to continuous downpour in the past few days, the roads have been blocked in some places. He assured of informing the matter to the SJDA chairman and further assured that the road will be repaired after the monsoon.
