Locals block Sahudangi-Ambari road over poor condition, demand immediate repairs

Rajganj, 20th June: In a recent development, the local residents staged a blockade at the Ambari area intersection in Rajganj block demanding immediate road renovations on Thursday. The protest came over growing frustrations due to the dilapidated condition of the Sahudangi-Ambari state highway.

Police from Ambari Outpost and Bhorer Alo police station responded promptly to the scene after receiving reports of the blockade.

Reportedly, following about an hour of protest, Binnaguri Gram Panchayat Pradhan Samijuddin Ahmed and the Officer-in-Charge of Bhorer Alo police station assured the locals that their concerns would be addressed, leading to the lifting of the blockade.

Protestors Tushar Kanti Dutta and Biswajit Das highlighted the severe issues faced by the residents due to the road’s poor state. The 5 km stretch from Sahudangi to Ambari is riddled with potholes, causing significant problems for pedestrians and school children, and leading to frequent minor accidents. The heavy traffic on the damaged road exacerbates these issues, and the protestors demanded that heavy traffic be halted until repairs are completed. They added that despite a tender being issued and road work commencing about seven months ago, the project has stalled for unknown reasons, adding to the residents frustration.

Pradhan Samijuddin Ahmed acknowledged the legitimacy of the grievances, explaining that discussions with the road work agency are scheduled for Friday. He assured that efforts would be made to expedite the road repairs to resolve the ongoing issues.
