Siliguri, 20th June: Residents of the Bhola More-Jamurivita area in Fulbari I, near Siliguri, staged a road blockade on Thursday demanding urgent repairs to the dilapidated road.
According to reports, locals used bamboos to block the road from Bhola More to Bhalobasa More, which has been in poor condition for a long time. The deteriorated state of the road has caused frequent accidents, especially during the monsoon when potholes filled with water make it nearly impossible to navigate at night. E-rickshaws and bikes frequently overturn, and street water often enters houses.
Despite informing local public representatives and the administration, no action has been taken. Frustrated by the inaction, residents decided to block the road as a form of protest. The blockade was eventually lifted with police intervention.
Dayal Roy, a local Panchayat member, stated that he has raised the issue multiple times in board meetings and lodged verbal and written complaints, but no work has been initiated.
Sunita Roy, the Pradhan of Fulbari I, confirmed receiving a written complaint from the locals and assured that the matter would be addressed. She emphasized the need for coordination with the Panchayat member to decide on the necessary actions.
