Siliguri, 16th December: Stir ensued in the area of Ward No. 01 adjacent to Siliguri Junction Railway Station when locals agitated after a team of RPF reached to demolish an illegal construction.
Reportedly, the RPF reached the spot after receiving information about the said illegal construction on railway land in front of Siliguri Junction railway station. On seeing the RPF team, the locals and members of TMC’s labour organization INTTUC got enraged and started protesting to stop the demolishment.
After this, the locals under the banner of INTTUC started protesting in front of the RPF. Seeing the protest of the locals, the RPF team had to return from the spot. The locals alleged that the Railways had arrived without prior notice to demolish the construction. However, the railway land has been on lease for a year.
At the same time, the locals alleged that some people were illegally constructing the railway land by paying money to the officials. On the other hand, INTTUC has raised questions on the role of RPF itself.
