Live leech taken out from trachea, life saved after surgery in NBMCH

Siliguri, 22nd December: A bizarre case of a leech stuck in the trachea for about 15 days has come to the fore. The doctors removed the leech from the man’s respiratory tract through surgery. 


 

Reportedly, Sajin Rai (49), a resident of Mirik sub-division, was admitted to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday after his physical condition deteriorated. After running tests, the doctors found that a live leech was stuck in his trachea. After this, the doctors of the ENT department of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital performed surgery and removed the leech. 


 

Dr. Radheshyam Mahato, the doctor of the ENT department, held a press conference at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital on Thursday. Dr. Radheshyam Mahato said that Sajin Rai was admitted to the Medical College on Wednesday. After conducting tests, it was learnt that a leech was stuck in his trachea. The patient had told his team that he had drunk spring water 15 days ago. It is suspected that the leech got stuck in the trachea and has been successfully removed after surgery. Sajin Rai is completely healthy now.
