Lightning strike triggers fire and gas cylinder explosion in Jalpaiguri, one injured

Jalpaiguri, 27th May: A horrific incident unfolded in Gajoldoba No. 7 area of Mal Mahakuma, where lightning strike sparked fire resulted in gas cylinder explosion. Consequently, an individual, identified as Asit Mandal, was injured.


Reportedly, on Sunday night, rains occurred in various districts of North Bengal under the influence of Cyclone ‘Remal’. Shivani Mandal, a resident of Gajoldoba No. 7 area, was at home with her family at the time of the storm. During this, lightning struck a bamboo grove near her house.

Tragically, Shivani’s kitchen caught fire, leading to the cylinder blast and subsequent collapse of walls and door. The house suffered extensive damage, with numerous belongings, including a bike, reduced to ashes, and injuries to cattle.


After the incident, injured Asit Mandal was immediately rushed to Mal Superspeciality Hospital. Upon receiving the news, fire department personnel and cops of Mal police station arrived at the spot.
