Leopard trapped in cage, residents express relief in Phansidewa

Phansidewa, 5th April: Residents of Fauji Jote in the Ghoshpukur area of Phansidewa expressed relief after a leopard was successfully trapped in cage on Sunday morning, ending nearly a month of fear and uncertainty.

Reportedly, the movement of the leopard in the area had created panic among locals, as several cattle had gone missing over the past few weeks. In response, residents had urged authorities to install a cage to capture the animal. Recently, a leopard cub was rescued from a pineapple garden. Following the incident, the Ghoshpukur Forest Department officials set up a cage inside a private tea garden owned by a local resident.

The leopard was finally trapped early this morning. Residents immediately informed forest officials, who arrived at the scene and took custody of the animal. Forest Department sources said the leopard will be released into a deep forest after undergoing a veterinary health check-up.

While the successful capture has brought relief to the area, residents remain cautious, expressing concern that more leopards could still be present nearby.
