Naxalbari, 05th August: Leopard cubs have been spotted in the drainage system of Pahargoomiah Tea Estate in Naxalbari, prompting immediate action from the forest department.
Reportedly, workers in the tea garden discovered two leopard cubs in the drain while picking leaves and quickly informed the authorities. In response, the Bagdogra Range workers, along with the Elephant Squad and Jambo Troops, rushed to the scene.
Forest workers then surrounded the area to ensure the safe return of the cubs to their mother. Cameras were installed for continuous monitoring.
Significantly, the mother leopard managed to retrieve one cub from the drain, but one cub remains in the drainage system. As a result, forest workers are maintaining close surveillance to ensure its safety.
Debesh Pandey, DFO of Kurseong Forest Division, stated over the phone that worker movement in the tea garden has been halted, and forest workers are conducting 24-hour surveillance to monitor the situation closely.
