Naxalbari, 10th June: Sensation spread across the Kiran Chandra Tea Estate in Naxalbari after a leopard carcass was found in Line No. 12 of the garden. The incident created panic among tea garden workers.
According to reports, workers who had gone to pluck tea leaves fled the area upon spotting the leopard. Later, the lifeless body of the leopard was discovered at the same spot.
Upon being informed, officials from the Bagdogra Forest Department arrived at the scene and recovered the carcass. Preliminary suspicion suggests the leopard may have died in a clash with another wild animal, possibly another leopard.
The Assistant Divisional Forest Officer (ADFO) said the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem. Meanwhile, fear has gripped the tea workers following the incident.
