Left leader Nurul Islam says present SMC board has failed, Goutam Deb counters allegations

Siliguri, 01st October: Taking a massive jibe at the present Siliguri Municipal Corporation on Friday, former leftist councillor Munshi Nurul Islam alleged that the board of administrators in charge of the SMC had terribly failed.

The Left leader submitted a memorandum to SMC Commissioner Sonam Wangdi Bhutia in support of several demands including unfairness regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, disrupting the municipal services. Nurul Islam warned that if their demands are not met, they would not only initiate a movement but also approach the court if needed.

Furthermore, the former councillor alleged that the state government has failed to hold elections even after the term of the municipal board is over and accused of unethically running the municipal corporation by keeping members of Trinamool Congress in the administrative board.

On the other hand, Goutam Deb, Chairman of the Board of Administrators of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, took a jibe at the demands put forward by the Left leaders. “One should not talk too negatively about anyone,” he further advised shutting down all allegations.
