Siliguri, 15th March: The members of the Siliguri Bar Association took to the streets demanding revelation of truth behind the mysterious death of a lawyer in Siliguri. Notably, it has been almost five months since the mysterious death of Siliguri lawyer Navin Sarkar.
Reportedly, on Friday, under the leadership of Siliguri Bar Association Secretary Alok Dhara, a rally was taken out from the Siliguri court demanding a proper investigation into the case. The rally circumambulated various roads and ended at Venus More. During the rally, the members of the Bar Association raised their voice demanding action against negligent officer in the investigation of the death case and strict punishment to the culprit by unearthing the truth.
It is to be noted that on the morning of December 4 last year, the body of lawyer Navin Sarkar was recovered by the cops of NJP police station from the canal adjacent to Fulbari Murder More. After the incident, the family and lawyers alleged murder. The bar association continuously demanded an impartial investigation of the matter in NJP police station to ascertain the precise cause of the death.
However, five months into the incident, the mystery surrounding Navin’s death continues. With regard to the case, Siliguri Metropolitan Police has also been reprimanded by the Circuit Bench of the High Court. The circuit bench judge replaced the investigating officer (IO) for improper investigation. Later, the responsibility of investigation was handed over to DD.
In this regard, Siliguri Bar Association Secretary Alok Dhara stated that the mystery behind the death has not been solved for five months which prompted them to carry out the rally demanding speedy and fair investigation.
