Naxalbari, 08th December: Police foiled a late-night drug exchange attempt on the Bagdogra-Naxalbari Asian Highway 2 and arrested two drug peddlers with 124 grams of brown sugar.
According to police sources, the accused had planned the exchange in a secluded area beside a hotel near Rathkhola in Naxalbari. Acting on a tip-off, plainclothes police carried out a late-night operation and detained two youths. During the search, 124 grams of brown sugar was recovered, following which both were arrested.
The arrested persons have been identified as Madhab Chhetri, a resident of Dudhgate under Panitanki, and Ajay Mondal, a resident of Dayaram Jote in Naxalbari. Police said Madhab Chhetri had arrived on a motorcycle to sell the drugs to Ajay Mondal. Both are reportedly involved in drug trafficking for a long time.
The accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Monday. Police have begun an investigation to find out who else is linked to the racket.
