Siliguri, 04th May: The Porajhar-Kawakhari Bhumi Raksha Committee and the Teesta-Mahananda Project Bhumi Raksha Committee jointly organized a protest rally and submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate demanding the return of their land. It is to be noted, the government has not provided compensation for the land acquired for various government projects, and the landless farmers of Siliguri have been protesting against this for years.
Today, both organizations rallied in front of the Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri and attempted to submit their memorandum to the District Magistrate and the SDO, but were stopped by the police. Eventually, some members were able to enter and hand over the memorandum. Gautam Ghosh, a member of the organizations, stated that if their demands are not met soon, they will organize a massive agitation in the future.
