Kharibari, 31st October: Residents of the Shyamdhan Jote area located in Kharibari celebrated Lakshmi Puja with great pomp. The 52nd year of Shyamdhan Jote Lakshmi Puja annual fair at Kharibari was observed as a grand carnival.
According to reports, the Kharibari Shyamdhan Jote Lakshmi Milan Mela Committee organizes the annual Lakshmi Puja Carnival for three days. Visitors from various locations including Bihar and along the borders of Nepal are drawn to the fair. This year, about thirty puja idols have been exhibited from Naxalbari, Bidhannagar, Bagdogra, and other household pujas. Furthermore, the event was strictly monitored by a team of police officials to ensure the security of the people attending the carnival.
In this regard, the fair committee members expressed optimism regarding the growing significance of the fair in the future, after acquiring government recognition.
