Siliguri, 16th August: Starting today, the one-month-long Duare Sarkar programme commenced in different parts of the city. Huge crowds were spotted in different camps since this morning.
A few days ago, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme in order to provide basic income support to the female heads of the family. Through this scheme, the government is going to provide Rs 500 per month to general category families and Rs 1000 per month to SC/ST families.
On the first day of the camp, several women were spotted waiting in long queues to enroll their names for the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme. On the other hand, SDO Srinivas Venkatarao Patil visited different camps to ensure everything is going on smoothly.
