Lakhimpur incident and violence in Bengal are different: Kiren Rijiju

Siliguri, 05th October: Addressing a press conference after arriving in Siliguri, Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju said that the incident at Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh is completely different from violence in Bengal.

He said that the incident at Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh was an accident. But the people of the ruling party in Bengal are carrying out acts of violence under planning. He asserted that the Lakhimpur incident and the violence in Bengal cannot be linked together. “The government is investigating the incident and will also set up Special Investigation Teams (SIT),” he added.

On the other hand, the minister said that law and order in Bengal is very weak, due to which, the Central Government will work on strengthening the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Kolkata High Court. He further accused the state government of ignoring North Bengal despite the region being very important as it shares borders with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and China. The Minister emphasized the need to strengthen the security system of the region and maintain peace.
