Siliguri, 15th March: Seeking justice for Biswajeet Roy who was wounded during a fire, Darjeeling District Kisan Congress Morcha and family members of the injured gheraoed the Matigara police station, on Monday. After a long siege, a memorandum was handed over to the police on behalf of the demonstrators.
According to the family of the injured, Biswajeet Roy worked in a furniture shop in Matigara. On February 02, while warming themselves by a fire, the shop owner allegedly added a flammable substance due to which the blaze took a massive form. Biswajeet Roy sustained severe burns and was rushed to a nursing home by the locals.
Roy is still undergoing treatment at the nursing home. With the bill of the nursing home increased to Rs 11 lakh, no assistance has been allegedly provided by the shop owner so far.
Reportedly, an FIR was registered against the said shop owner on February 05. Despite this, the family accuse the police of not taking any actions in this matter and that the accused is still at large.
Addressing the matter, Madhav Singho, general secretary of Darjeeling District Kisan Congress Morcha said that the police station was besieged to demand justice for the injured Biswajeet Roy. He stated that the police have assured to take appropriate action in this matter.
