Kharibari, 17th February: Residents of Kharibari have alleged that the unchecked movement of dumpers and tankers along the state road is disrupting normal life and robbing them of sleep, triggering growing resentment in the area.
According to locals, the administration had installed height bars and imposed restrictions barring goods vehicles carrying over 15 tonnes from plying on the stretch. However, residents claim that heavy dumpers and tankers continue to operate freely at night, allegedly violating the restrictions.
Tension escalated late on Monday night when an ambulance reportedly got stuck due to the movement of dumpers. In protest, locals blocked a dumper and staged a demonstration. Upon receiving information, police from Kharibari Police Station reached the spot and brought the situation under control after assuring necessary steps.
Residents further alleged that vehicles exceeding the 15-tonne limit regularly ply on the road and even cross over speed breakers recklessly. Continuous movement of dumpers throughout the night has not only disturbed sleep but also increased the risk of accidents for other motorists.
Locals have demanded immediate intervention from the administration to address the issue and ensure strict enforcement of the restrictions.
