Siliguri, 26th August: The police officers of the Khalpara Outpost have uncovered a major theft ring and arrested two individuals for allegedly purchasing stolen e-rickshaws. The accused Joy Sarkar was arrested from Bidhannagar and Mohammad Jahirul Alam from Bihar. Significantly, the police have recovered two stolen e-rickshaws from their possession.
Notably, the series of e-rickshaw thefts in the Khalpara area had raised concerns among local residents. During the investigation, the Khalpara police identified Deep Chhetri as the mastermind behind the thefts who was already arrested by the Siliguri police on charges of battery theft. Following this, the Khalpara police sought and received permission from the Siliguri Court to take Deep Chhetri into a four-day remand for further questioning.
During this, Deep Chhetri revealed that Joy Sarkar and Mohammad Jahirul Alam had purchased the stolen vehicles from him. The Khalpara police arrested both individuals based on the information and produced them before the Siliguri Court. Currently, the police have launched an extended investigation to hunt possible suspects involved in the case.
