Siliguri, 20th January: Police personnel of Khalpara Outpost under Siliguri Metropolitan Police have successfully cracked two theft cases simultaneously, arresting two accused and recovering stolen gold and silver jewellery along with a stolen scooty within nearly 20 days of the incidents.
According to police sources, a theft took place on 31st December at a vacant house in Adarsh Nagar Colony. As per the complaint lodged by the house owner, gold and silver jewellery worth several lakhs, kept for her daughter’s wedding, were stolen. Acting on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and arrested the first accused, identified as Karan Barman, 14 days after the incident.
During interrogation, the name of another accused, Pankaj Paswan, surfaced, following which he was also arrested. Both accused were produced before the Siliguri court and remanded to police custody for five days. Police sources stated that Karan Barman is a resident of Jyoti Nagar under Ward No. 04, while Pankaj Paswan resides in Rajendra Nagar under Ward No. 01.
Based on sustained interrogation and statements of the accused, police recovered the stolen jewellery. Additionally, acting on the confession of Karan Barman, police also recovered a stolen scooty. During questioning, it was revealed that the scooty had been stolen from Air View More during the Durga Puja Carnival. The two-wheeler was recovered nearly four months after the theft.
Police officials said the successful recovery highlights effective monitoring and coordinated investigation by the Khalpara Outpost team.
