Rajganj, 17th March: Internal resentment surfaced within the Trinamool Congress in Rajganj following the announcement of candidates for the Assembly elections. Four-time MLA Khageswar Roy was denied a ticket, with Swapna Barman being named as the party’s candidate instead.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the decision, Khageswar Roy has decided to step down from the post of Jalpaiguri District Trinamool Congress Chairman. The veteran leader, associated with the organisation for a long time, said he was deeply hurt by the party’s decision and disappointed over being denied a ticket.
The impact of the development has also been seen at the block level. Rajganj Block Trinamool Congress President Arindam Banerjee, along with several leaders of different party wings, have reportedly resigned from their posts.
