Sikkim, 17th June: More than 2000 tourists were left stranded in North Sikkim on June 16, as the road near Chungthang was washed away by flash floods. Despite the challenging circumstances of heavy rains and inclement weather, the dedicated members of the BRO Project Swastik, known as Karamyogis, worked overnight to construct a temporary crossing over the flash flood area. Their efforts have resulted in the successful rescue of over 300 tourists by 12:00 PM on June 17. The authorities are currently focused on restoring road connectivity while continuing with the evacuation of the remaining stranded tourists.
