Junior doctor Souvik Banerjee on hunger strike at NBMCH admitted to CCU as health deteriorates

Siliguri, 15th October: The health condition of junior doctor Souvik Banerjee, who has been on a hunger strike at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), has worsened. He has been admitted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) for treatment.

It is to be noted that the hunger strike, which began on October 6, has taken a toll on the participants. Earlier, another junior doctor, Alok Kumar Verma, also fell ill due to the strike. Now, Souvik Banerjee’s physical condition has deteriorated, leading to his immediate admission to the CCU.

Dr. Sagnik Maitra commented on the situation, explaining that although Souvik Banerjee refused to leave the hunger strike, his deteriorating health made admission necessary. He also expressed concern about the situation and emphasized the need for a positive response from the government.
