Siliguri, 03rd July: In an effort to solve a series of robberies at car showrooms, the police in Siliguri have sought the assistance of Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar police. A special team has been formed, and investigators are working to connect the dots between the incidents. Reportedly, a similar attempted robbery took place at a car showroom in Jalpaiguri, and another successful robbery occurred in Cooch Behar. By linking these three incidents, law enforcement aims to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible. The Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Detective Department (DD) team of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police have been dispatched to Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar to aid in the investigation. While no significant breakthroughs have been achieved so far, the police claim to possess some crucial clues that are aiding the ongoing inquiry.
It is to be noted, a few days ago, unidentified criminals targeted a car showroom located near the Shiv Mandir in Siliguri’s Matigara area. They tied up the security personnel and made off with Rs 24 lakh. Shortly after the incident, the police recovered a broken safe in the Kamalapur tea garden of Phansidewa. During the course of their investigation, authorities discovered that a similar incident had occurred in a car showroom near National Highway No. 31 in Jalpaiguri. In this case, four masked men had also restrained the security personnel but were unsuccessful in absconding with the showroom’s vault. Likewise, a robbery was carried out in a car showroom in Cooch Behar using the same modus operandi. These incidents have led investigators to suspect the involvement of a single gang.
ADCP Subhendra Kumar of Siliguri Metropolitan Police stated that significant clues have been uncovered in connection with the robberies, and investigations are progressing based on this information. Similarly, Superintendent of Police Umesh Ganpat Khandbahale from Jalpaiguri district confirmed the attempted robbery on June 10 and indicated that it appears to be the work of the same gang. Both the Jalpaiguri and Siliguri police forces are collaborating closely in their joint investigation into these incidents.
