Naxalbari, 26th July: The Jesuits of North Bengal organized a vaccination camp on Monday at St. Vincent’s High School, Hatighisa, Naxalbari Block. The camp was held in a collaboration with Medica North Bengal Clinic and St Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association, North Bengal Chapter, where 580 people received their vaccine.
The free vaccination camp was sponsored completely by the Darjeeling Jesuits of North Bengal and the beneficiaries are from the tea gardens located in and around Naxalbari block namely Merry View, Dam Dama, Attal, Sathbhaiya, Kiran Chandra, Bijoy Nagar, Tokoria and Naxalbari. Reportedly, vaccination Covishield first dose as per government guidelines was given and the second dose will be given in October.
Fr Lawrence Thanislaus SJ the Principal of the School said that the purpose of the camp is twofold namely to serve and protect the people from further waves of COVID-19 and to help the government in its effort to administer the vaccination to the citizens. He further expressed his gratitude to S Ponnombalam the District Magistrate, Dy CMOH- III Dr Lieu, Medica North Bengal Clinic, Rev Fr John Wilfred Lobo SJ the Provincial of the Darjeeling Jesuits, Fr Joe Victor the coordinator of the Emergency Relief Team and its members, the members of St Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association, North Bengal Chapter and the local administration at Naxalbari for their continuous support.
