Jalpaiguri, 17th May: Based on a tip-off, the Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police launched an operation in the Jalpaiguri Goshala More and arrested 2 men, identified as Bittu Karmakar (driver) and Rafiqul Sheikh (conductor), residents of the Cooch Behar Dinhata area. 75 kgs of cannabis worth 10 lakh rupees were recovered from their possession.
According to police sources, a chilli-laden truck was on its way to Bihar from Mathabhanga in Cooch Behar district. The police, upon searching the vehicle, seized a huge quantity of cannabis which was hidden inside the truck. The vehicle was immediately detained by the police.
The arrested accused individuals will be produced before the Jalpaiguri Court tomorrow. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
