Jalpaiguri, 05th February: The Special Court under the POCSO Act in Jalpaiguri has sentenced an accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for the sexual assault of a minor girl.
The incident dates back to 2016 under the jurisdiction of the Malbazar police station. The accused was the van driver of the victim’s school. Reports indicate that he sexually assaulted the minor on her way back from school. The victim had informed about the incident to her family and the matter was reported to the police. Based on the complaint, the police investigated the matter and arrested the accused.
After a long trial, the judge, Rintu Sur, sentenced the accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, a fine of ₹10,000, and an additional month in jail if the fine is not paid. The court also ordered the accused to pay ₹4 lakh as compensation to the victim.
