Jalpaiguri District Land Loser Committee demand for job, locks Teesta Barrage office

Siliguri, 01st February: Jalpaiguri District Land Loser Committee protested by locking in the Teesta Barrage Project office at Teen Batti, Siliguri. 


The protesters initially demonstrated by blocking the road in the Teen Batti area. However, a huge police force of the NJP police station reached the spot and removed the blockade. After this, the demonstrators took out all government officers from the Teesta Barrage Project office and locked the office. 

Jalpaiguri District Land Loser Committee President Nazrul Rehman said that their lands were acquired for a government project from 1984 to 2006 and a government job was also promised to all the affected. After this, the land losers submitted applications several times and also staged numerous protests in this regard, however, they have not been given jobs till now. Consequently, about 600 affected people joined today’s protest.
