Siliguri, 23rd May: Duping people through online dating services, such as dating apps or call centres has become a frequent phenomenon in Siliguri. A similar incidnet surfaced when a team of Jalpaiguri Cyber Crime in a joint venture with Pradhan Nager police of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested a married couple who allegedly ran a dating app and deceived many.
The arrested couple has been identified as Taraknath Saha and his wife Sangeeta Saha. The duo was nabbed from Salbari. They have been taken to Jalpaiguri Cyber Police Station for further proceedings.
According to the information, both Taraknath Saha and his wife Sangeeta Saha used to run a dating app. Through which they used to extrot hefty amount from the participants in the name of providing them with a membership. Once the step was completed, they used to set up video calls betweeen young men and women and later used to blackmail them.
The matter came to light when a victim of their crime filed a written complaint in Jalpaiguri Cyber Cell, after which an investigation was immediately launched. During the search, the team learnt about Taraknath Saha and his wife Sangeeta Saha as the main accused. After this, a raid was conducted at their house under the NJP police station area. But the couple was no where to be found.
Later, with the help of Pradhan Nagar Police, the team succesfully nabbed the couple from Salbari last night. Many important details are said to be disclosed after the arrest of the couple.
