Jaldapara Forest Department launches tree top plantation initiative for greening

Alipurduar, 10th August: In a significant move towards environmental conservation, the Jaldapara National Park Authority has initiated a tree top plantation drive aimed at enhancing the forest’s greenery. This unique method, celebrated during the Van Mahotsav festival in the monsoon season, involves planting saplings on the branches of large trees.

Foresters believe that this innovative approach will contribute to a “green revolution” within the park. The saplings, once planted, are secured with earthen mounds and jute sacks to the branches of the trees. This year, approximately 200 saplings have been planted in various regions of the park, including North, East, West, Chilapata, and Kodalbasti areas. The growth and development of these saplings will be closely monitored using a GPS system.

The forest department has announced plans to continue this effort, with more saplings set to be planted in the coming weeks.
