Fulbari, 24th July: The Islampur Zilla Nirman Committee has officially submitted a memorandum to North Bengal Development (NBD) Minister Udayan Guha, demanding the establishment of Islampur as a separate district. The submission took place in Uttar Kanya on Wednesday.
The committee was formed under the guidance of the Uttar Dinajpur District Committee of the Indian National Congress. State General Secretary of Congress and former MLA Ali Imran Ramz, alias Victor, along with other committee members, presented the memorandum outlining their demand.
Ali Imran Ramz explained that the Islampur Zilla Nirman Committee was established on March 23 by the Uttar Dinajpur Congress District Committee. The primary demand is for the state government to recognize Islampur subdivision as a district. The memorandum, submitted on this day to the NBD Minister, emphasizes the urgency of this long-standing demand. The committee advocates for the declaration of the five blocks Chopra, Islampur, Gowalpukur, Chakulia, and Karandighi, as part of Islampur district, with Karandighi being designated as a Mahakuma.
