Siliguri, 19th October: On Monday, INTTUC leader Prasenjit Roy submitted a memorandum to the railway officials demanding the appointment of 40 old contractual workers.
Incidentally, last Friday, a political clash occurred at the NJP premises over the employment of contractual workers. The TMC workers were accused of harassing the workers at NJP station. On the other hand, TMC alleged that BJP and railway temporary workers vandalized the INTTUC office. Several people were arrested in the incident. Although the situation is under control at present, the political pressure continues.
INTTUC leader Prasenjit Roy said that the contractors are trying to fire the old workers and appoint new workers with little wages. He further warned of staging larger demonstrations if their demands are not met soon.
