Bagdogra, 29th July: International Tiger Day was observed today at Tipukhola in the Bagdogra forest region, highlighting the importance of biodiversity conservation. The event aimed to spread awareness among students about biodiversity and the need for its preservation.
As part of the programme, visuals showcasing 10 biodiversity conservation efforts from across West Bengal were presented. Students were educated on the concept of biodiversity and why protecting it is vital for the environment.
The event was attended by West Bengal Environment Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Sabhadhipati Arun Ghosh, Darjeeling District Magistrate Preeti Goyal, and officials from the Environment and Forest Departments.
Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya emphasised the need for public awareness on biodiversity conservation through coordinated efforts by the Environment, Forest, and Pollution Control Departments. She also advocated for the inclusion of environmental protection within the Indian Constitution.
The minister encouraged students to actively participate in tree plantation and other environmental protection initiatives.
