Siliguri, 04th May: Along with many perks, digital payment services also comes with many disadvantages, due to which online fraud is on a rise.
One such incident surfaced from Siliguri Hakim Para area after Amit Kumar Roy, a resident of the said area has become a victim of such an unfortunate incident amid the ongoing lockdown.
As per the report, Roy owns a kitchen equipment business. Allegedly, on May 2, Roy received a phone call from an unknown number. On the other end of the line was a man, who impersonated as an Indian Army officer and told him that he wants to buy a gas oven from him.
The man even assured of paying him the required amount through online procedures. The scammers had tricked Roy into providing them with his bank account number, with the help of which they were successful in withdrawing 10 thousand rupees from his account.
Roy stated that the scammers had told him that they have deposited 10 thousand rupees into his account. However, upon checking, he was startled to find that the said amount was missing from his account. The entire incident has been reported to the cybercrime department on Monday.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
