Siliguri, 23rd February: Constable Amit Kumar Oraon, who was injured in a road accident while on duty, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He was accorded a guard of honour at the Siliguri Police Commissionerate as senior officials paid their last respects with moist eyes.
Police Commissioner C Sudhakar, DCP Rakesh Singh and DCP (Traffic) Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed, along with other senior officers, paid floral tributes to the deceased constable.
It may be recalled that last Saturday, Amit Kumar Oraon was critically injured after being hit by an Army crane while on duty at Darjeeling More. He was admitted to a private hospital in Matigara, where he later passed away during treatment.
After post-mortem at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), his mortal remains were brought to the Police Commissionerate with full honours and later handed over to his family members.
Meanwhile, the Army personnel arrested in connection with the tragic accident was produced before the Siliguri court.
