India-Bangladesh border closed due to COVID-19 second wave, foreign currency exchange centres at a loss

Rajganj, 27th April: Due to the second wave of COVID-19, the Fulbari border has been closed. This has created an atmosphere of tension among the foreign currency exchange centres.

The Bangladesh government has decided to close the border for two weeks due to the rapid rise in coronavirus cases. From April 26 to May 09, the movement of people through the Fulbari border has been closed, however, the import-export of goods will continue. The foreign currency exchange centres, traders, Toto drivers, and many others who depend on the Fulbari border are at a loss.

The owners of the currency exchange centres said that there are 22 foreign currency exchange centres at the Fulbari border. Traders are also going through huge losses for the past 14 months due to the pandemic. Previously, at least 500 people used to travel between the two countries every day. Since March last year, the movement has significantly dropped. Adding to this, the movement of people has been banned for another two weeks due to which the currency exchange centres are facing severe difficulties.
