Illegal tea plantation on government land destroyed on High Court orders in Siliguri

Siliguri, 03rd July: A tea garden planted illegally on Forest Department land in Siliguri has been destroyed following a High Court order.

Reports indicate that an individual had been conducting business by cultivating a tea garden on several bighas of government land in the Farabari Nepali Basti area under Dabgram-Fulbari. Despite the individual’s claims of ownership, the Forest Department had previously instructed him to remove the tea garden, but he did not comply.

The matter was taken to the High Court, and after a prolonged legal battle, the court mandated the liberation of the land. On Wednesday, in accordance with the court’s directive, a large contingent of police and forest officials oversaw the destruction of the entire tea garden.
