Siliguri, 27th November: White-clad police of Matigara Police Station busted an illegal liquor racket in Siliguri and arrested a youth involved in smuggling. The accused has been identified as Kanhaiya Kumar, 21, a resident of Begusarai, Bihar.
Police sources said that Kanhaiya Kumar had been renting a house in Chandmuni area of Matigara for a long time and using it to store illegally imported foreign liquor. He used to bring large quantities of foreign liquor from Sikkim and store it in his rented house in Siliguri before selling it at high prices in Bihar.
Following a tip-off about the illegal operations, the police conducted a raid at the rented house on Wednesday night. During the raid, a total of 744 bottles of liquor were recovered. The accused was arrested on the spot.
Kanhaiya Kumar was produced before the Siliguri Magistrate Court on Thursday, and police have sought remand to investigate other members of the gang. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
