Siliguri, 21st July: NJP police, based on a tip-off, launched several operations in the Fulbari area and detained three illegal betel-nut laden trucks, on Monday. The drivers, identified as Azharuddin, Radhe Shyam, and Joy Singh were arrested in the incident. They were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Tuesday.
A huge quantity of illegal betel nuts was recovered from their possession. Reportedly, the trucks were heading towards Delhi from Assam. The value of the recovered betel-nuts has been estimated to be around 1.5 crore rupees.
It is to recall, the police had recovered illegal betel nuts worth 50 lakh rupees from a truck while conducting a raid the Fulbari area last Friday night. While the truck was seized, the truck driver was arrested in the incident.
