Siliguri, 20th September: A distressing incident has been reported in Matigara of Siliguri where a physically challenged minor was sexually assaulted by an elderly man. The accused has been identified as Tarani Barman (60), a resident of the area under the Matigara police station.
The fifteen-year-old was reportedly home alone last night when Tarani Barman entered the house and committed the heinous crime. Upon the family’s return, the victim explained the entire ordeal to her parents through sign-language. Following this, the victim’s family lodged a formal complaint at the Matigara Police Station.
The police launched an investigation based on the complaint and arrested the accused Tarani Barman from his house on Thursday night. On Friday, the accused was produced before the Siliguri Court after a registered case under the POCSO Act for sexually assaulting a minor. Meanwhile, the victim underwent a routine medical examination. At present, the police are engaged in further investigation of the case.
