Chopra, 30th June: In memory of Sidhu Kanhu-Birsa, Hul Divas Udjapan Committee, Chopra Block, observed Hul Diwas (Rebellion Day) on Wednesday. The programme was organized at Kalagaj Alorani Maidan.
During previous years, many people from Chopra Block and other places used to gather on this day. The people from the Adivasi community used to pay homage to the heroic warriors through various ceremonies throughout the day. Various competitions would also be organized. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, the celebration was done on a low-key this year.
It is to be noted that Hul Divas is observed annually on June 30 in memory of tribals — Sidho and Kanhu Murmu — who led the Santhal Hul (rebellion) on June 30, 1855, at Bhognadih in Sahebganj district.
