Siliguri, 30th September: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the cops of Matigara Police Station busted liquor smuggling by apprehending a pick-up van carrying fish in Siliguri. Following this, the driver was arrested and liquor worth lakhs was seized. The arrested accused has been identified as Birman Sahani, a resident of Punjab.
As per reports, on Friday night, a fish-laden pickup van bearing Bihar registration number was on its way from Siliguri to Bihar. A tip-off regarding the activity was received by the SOG.
Acting swiftly, the SOG and Matigara police launched an operation at the Shiv Mandir area and apprehended the vehicle. Upon initiating a search, 35 cartons of liquor were recovered. Subsequently, the driver was arrested. On Saturday, the arrested driver was produced before the Siliguri court.
