Darjeeling, 25th August: The Himalayan Transport Co-ordination Committee (HTCC), which has around 85 taxi syndicates under them, has decided not to support the 24-hour strike called by hill parties including Hamro Party, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), and CPRM. Notably, the strike has been called by the hill parties to protest against the killing of a minor schoolgirl in Siliguri.
In this regard, The HTCC president S.N. Pradhan stated that the culprit was arrested and the court would provide a verdict. He added that they condemned the incident and also demanded that the culprit should be punished. Furthermore, he stated that several protests are already in progress with the BGPM President Anit Thapa meeting the Commissioner of Police in Siliguri urging for justice.
According to the HTCC president, Covid has already hampered lives and further strikes should not be called. The committee would also hold a silent rally to protest against the incident on August 28 in Darjeeling.
