Siliguri, 22nd November: Panic spread in Siliguri’s Dakshin Palash area on Friday night as a fire broke out in a closed house under Pradhan Nagar police station. The blaze quickly engulfed the entire house, reducing it to ashes. No one was at home at the time of the incident.
The house owners, Daya Kumar Mahato and Sarita Mahato, had gone to pick up their child from tuition when a relative called to inform them that smoke was coming from their house. By the time the couple returned, the entire house had burned down, destroying all important documents and belongings.
A fire engine later arrived and brought the fire under control. Officials said that without the prompt action of the fire brigade and local residents, the flames could have spread to several nearby houses.
The fire department’s preliminary investigation suggests a short circuit may have caused the blaze. Police are conducting a full investigation into the incident.
