House owner stages ‘dharna’ in Siliguri over tenants allegedly occupying her house

Siliguri, 31st December: A house owner, Yuthika Biswas, staged a ‘dharna’ at the base of the Gandhi statue in Siliguri, alleging that her tenants have illegally occupied her house and refused to vacate it.

According to reports, Yuthika Biswas, a resident of Hakimpara in Siliguri, owns a house in Tikhanikata near Medical More, which she rented to a person named Mukti Saha around 4-5 years ago. As per the rental agreement, the tenants were supposed to vacate the property when asked, but instead, they allegedly made repeated excuses and resorted to abusive language.

The situation escalated when the house owner and her family were verbally attacked by the tenants. Attempts to file a complaint at the North Bengal Medical Outpost were unsuccessful, but a formal complaint was later filed at the Siliguri Police Commissionerate. However, no resolution has been reached so far.

Yuthika Biswas stated that despite returning borrowed money with interest to Mukti Saha, the tenants demanded an additional ₹15 lakh to vacate the house. Out of this, ₹11 lakh was reportedly paid, yet the tenants remain in the property. It is further alleged that the tenants have support from a Trinamool leader.

Demanding immediate intervention, Biswas and her son urged the administration to take strict action against the tenants and return their property to them.

Meanwhile, efforts to contact Mukti Saha for comments on the allegations went unanswered.
