Siliguri, 04th December: A two-storey house located in Subhash Pally, Netaji Subhash Road under Ward No. 20, Siliguri Municipal Corporation, was demolished by the Municipal Corporation on Wednesday. The owner of the house, Nirmal Chaudhary, expressed his displeasure over the demolition and made allegations that the action was taken based on party affiliation.
Chaudhary claimed that his 40 to 50-year-old house was not in a dangerously dilapidated state and was in the process of being renovated. He further accused the Municipal Corporation of demolishing the house based on political bias, alleging that they targeted the property due to the party color associated with the owner. He mentioned that he had responded to a notice from the Municipal Corporation stating plans for renovation, yet the house was demolished without prior notice or information, which he found unjust.
In response, sources from the Siliguri Municipal Corporation clarified that Nirmal Chaudhary’s house had been in a severely dilapidated condition, posing a risk of collapse and a potential major accident. The sources added that the house had been issued a notice, but when no action was taken, the Municipal Corporation decided to demolish it for safety reasons.
